it’s the end of almost everything

Yup, it’s the end of almost everything… The end of my internship, the end of my Summer holidays, the end of the time spent with friends & family, BUT it’s definitely not the end of my life =)

I’m very grateful to all who had made my Summer holidays merrier, more meaningful and memorable. I’ve spent 3.5months, almost 4 months back in Malaysia. And this time, I spent 2 months+ in Nilai/KL because of my internship.

First of all, I would like to thank my sister for welcoming me every weekend when I was at KL. Thanks for letting me to stay over at her small room and thanks for everything she had prepared for me. Another important person to thank is my twin brother, who was in charge of bringing me around, driving me here and there without any complaint. I would like to thank my Uncle as well. Thanks for bringing me around before he flew to US few weeks ago. We miss him so much! Also, I would like to thank my cousin sister who had treated us wonderful dinner at Kota Kemuning. It’s really nice to have spent time with our cute nephews.

Next, I would like to thank all my best friends/old friends who had made the effort to meet up, and to have small gatherings. The two trips to Genting were really fun and what we gained were the memories =) I really appreciate everyone who made it to the trip, esp Raul (for purposedly flew back from Sarawak), Yang n Wui (for joining us although they had exam the next day)! Thanks guys! Although this time we didn’t get the chance to have a gathering among jimuis, I’m glad that I get to see each of you and spent some time with you girls. *Ying and Angelene, this year is your turn to fly. Best wishes and take care. *Fong, have a safe flight back as well! *Syn and Anne, take care and miss you girls lotsss…

Last but not least, I would like to thank all my colleagues for their support and help throughout these two months of internship. Thanks for bringing me along to visit those water treatment sites, thanks for all the knowledge that have been shared with me, thanks for spending time with me in Nilai etc. I’m very very happy to have known a bunch of young and friendly colleagues. The two months I spent in Nilai were really great and memorable. Eating around, Playing badminton every Monday, Karaoke at MyBox etc etc… Special thanks to Clarice (for sharing her knowledge with me as well as making sure I was doing alright), PeiWen (for accompanying me while Clarice was away and bringing me out for lunch etc), Koh (for showing me the correct way home almost every weekend and bringing me out for supper/dinner etc), Wilson (for bringing me along to visit sites, sharing a few dramas/a lot of songs with me and also a great singer), Ong (for introducing good food/showing me several nice places), SuatBee (for the "trip" to Cheras Pasar Malam and all the nice songs you sang at MyBox), Yong & Helen (for showing/bringing me around when I first went to Nilai).

I’ve met a lot of great people in these three months plus and I’ve gained a lot of invaluable experiences. A lot more to share besides all these experiences, for example the Tzu Ching Camp in Malacca, the volunteer experiences in Selayang etc etc. All of these will be in my mind, and I will talk about them in other posts when time comes.

The second last thursday here…

It’s my second last Thursday working.. I’m almost done with my internship, is it a good thing? or a bad thing? (good and bad in terms of how I feel about it) Kind of sad to leave this company, because I have really good and friendly colleagues. Good thing is that I’m going back to Kelantan soon =)

Yesterday was a public holiday in Negeri Sembilan, so I get one day off from work. SO I decided to go to Seremban, to visit my dear Angelene. It’s so coincident that she came to accompany her dad and therefore I got to go to Seremban =) Henry (one of my colleagues) gave me a ride on Tuesday night, and picked me up this morning. Angelene’s dad brought Angelene and me to have Western Food at Hawaii Island Restaurant. The food was not bad, in fact, it was good. Hahahaa =) When we went back home, we ate Durian!! I have never eaten so much durian since I’m back.

On Wednesday morning, which was yesterday, we went to Ming Kok for dim sum. As what I’ve heard from Poh Choo, Ming Kok is one of the famous dim sum restaurant that she often visit. It was really good =) Then, Angelene’s dad left us at Seremban 2, Jusco because he has some stuff to do. We actually planned to go to GreenBox Karaoke, and we were in a long queue. Too bad, they don’t have room for two anymore. And so we changed our plan, we decided to watch a movie. It’s REALLY a public holiday! We couldn’t get tickets for The Dark Knight, we finally got tickets for Red Cliff. We got some popcorns and soft drinks for the movie. Hmmm, the movie was okay, but it ended with "to be continued…" After all these ‘activities’, Angelene and I went to those ‘lao bek lao bek’ karaoke to sing because singing was in our plan =p Also, we played two sets of "basketball shooting" at the arcade. These are pretty much what we did beside shopping and having lunch at Igentis, a nice restaurant.

Angelene’s dad picked us up at about 7pm. We went home to have a nap and we had famous fish porridge for our dinner. I managed to get some Seremban Siew Pau on the way back. Also, Uncle brought us ‘yau che hor’ before we actually went home. This morning, Uncle actually prepared half-boiled egg for me before he sent me to KTM Station to meet up with Henry. It was a short and very fun trip! Thanks so much to Uncle and also Angelene.. I really appreciate the sweet experiences in Seremban =)

A very very long week

As usual, I drove back to work in Nilai on Monday morning, after spending my special weekend in KL. Why was that weekend so special? I met up with Angelene on Sunday! Finally, I met her! After almost two months I’m back in M’sia, finally I got to see her… We spent time at Sakae Sushi (Sunway Pyramid) - chatting, eating etc etc. Although we were not in a very big group (i.e. not a big gathering), Raul, my koko, Fong, Angelene and I all enjoyed ourselves. And the mission of the day was to get me a pair of high heels. Yup, we found one in M.O.D. A very special blue + silver color.. Our next thing was to eat (although I’ve already eaten a lot that day) — SeaPark’s Nasi Lemak =) Believe me, really nice!! Try it try it~

I was actually really really tired after eating the nasi lemak at SeaPark… Coz I slept at about 2.30am on Saturday night. WHY? Hahaa… Went out with brother and Raul, EAT again! That was a very nice mamak stall as well -  Maya at Cheras. We ordered one fried chicken for each of us, plus maggi goreng and nasi goreng PEDAS. really pedas, coz there’re a lot of cili padi(s)!

Well, back to work stuff. This week was/is really long! A few people are left in the office, coz most of the engineers are now in Singapore. Quite sien… And the whole office is very quiet recently. Fortunately, I got the chance to follow Ong to a few sites in KL yesterday. We went to SDM in Ulu Klang, Nanyang and Tri-Union in Banting. We also dropped by MEMC coz Ong wanted to talk to KS. Met Wilson there coz he is in charge of the project.

Today, what am I going to do? Not that I’m lazy or "curi tulang", I’m assigned to prepare powerpoint slides but the template is not here yet, so I can’t do my job :(

Fortunately, I have Poh Choo to talk to me on MSN. Hahahah!! Both of us are working, and we’re not very far away I guess. She’s at Serdang and I’m at Nilai.

Time passes so slow without my colleaguesss around. I miss them? Yea, I miss them coz there’ll be more fun, more sounds, more music when they’re around!

Four more weeks left in Darco…

Two weeks in Darco

"How’s your internship?" This is the question that my friends usually ask.

"So far so good, learned a lot etc." This will be my response.

So here’re some updates after two weeks in Darco.

-Last week, I went to Malacca with Wilson, my colleague. This was my first time went to site, to see the real water treatment system. And yes, I got to know more in depth from this one-day trip. It was a fun one, although we reached hostel at about 9sth at night. (Wilson was sick and so I drove his car when we departed that morning. Pity him~)

-Weekend, Clarice(another colleague) asked me to download ROSA (a software) for RO (reverse osmosis) and UF(ultra filtration) system. I spent some time playing with the program on Sunday.

-Yesterday, I helped Clarice to prepare/edit a proposal for RO/UF system.

-Today, I downloaded CADIX(another software) for mixed bed system. (Both ROSA and CADIX were downloaded from Dow website.)

-Thanks to Clarice, who teaches me a lot.. I guess she’s kind of like my "supervisor". Hope to be able to help her more because she is really a SUPER-BUSY process engineer…

*I’m going home this coming weekend =) This is the most interesting part =p

*Tomorrow is my sister’s birthday! Happie birthday meimei =) Happie Birthday to ko Tat as well~

The first weekend after internship

It’s the first weekend after I started my internship.

I enjoyed my work so far because I learned “something” although I was there for only one week. I work in a water system company- Darco Water System Sdn. Bhd. So far, I’ve learned a little about deionized (D.I.) water, reverse osmosis (R.O.) water and also water treatment for copper cyanide/silver cyanide. Besides that, I have really good colleagues/housemates. They are all very friendly and nice =)

Other than work stuff:

Good news!
One of our jimuis - Fong just came back from UK! She reached KLIA on Thursday night. At first I was wondering whether I should go to KLIA to meet her up because it was my first time to drive to KLIA from Tmn Chempaka, Nilai (the place where I stay). At last I went! I met Anne, Syn and Ying who were there to pick Fong up. That was my first time meeting my jimuisss since I’m back in M’sia!! I was very happy although I spent a very short time with them.

Not-quite-good news:
I realized that I get angry very easily recently. I get unhappy/moody really fast. I don’t know why… Because of the hot weather that I really can’t stand?? Or I’m just too much?? I create a lot of trouble once I “muka hitam”. People around me get affected once I show my unhappy face, especially my brother. I’m just too much to give him trouble. I should CONTROL myself, should not let “unhappy” mood stays with me anymore.

It’s a very special day today - Father’s Day!
BUT, three of us are all in KL.. Anyway, those who are back at KB will dine out with grandpa, which is very nice too~

Happy Father’s Day to my beloved daddy!
We love you!

First post from K.B.

I’m home for more than three weeks. I did nothing more than do something, I guess.

First week, I just stayed home and tried to recover from jet lag.

Second week, He Wei came to Kota Bharu with his friend. Kheng Hong and I toured them, went to Kelantan’s famous Siamese Temple/Wat and ate a very special local food- nasi ulam for lunch.

Third week, went to Kuantan with Kheng Hong. It was kind of a last-minute arrangement. We actually visited Miao and it was actually a very short trip- 2days 1night. However, I managed to get Polo-T’s and a pair of shorts =) The most interesting place was Teluk Chempedak. It is very pretty!

Yesterday was my beloved Grandma’s one-year death anniversary. All of us were so busy preparing stuff. Most of my cousins were back for this important day. So it’s kind of a reunion for me. This was also the first time I met my brother and sister since I’m back! Since they were to go back to KL for work/study right after the praying ceremony, we didn’t really get the chance to hang out. I appreciate the time we spent although it’s short.

I’m leaving tonight, going to KL with my parents. The main purpose is actually to report to the company because I’ll start my internship next Monday. Well, we will take this opportunity to have a short family trip. I’ve been planning for a family trip before I’m back. But my parents have to work as well as my brother, and my little sister doesn’t have holidays yet. So I guess, this will be it!

I guess, I will "have something to do" all the time when I start working, won’t have the chance to "stay and do nothing" anymore. Hopefully it will be a great working experience for me.

*The most important thing now is to finish my translation work, it’s due very very soon!

Hong Kong International Airport

I’m on the way back to Malaysia, and I’m now at Hong Kong…

A few more hours to reach Malaysia!

I should feel really happy to be home, to see everyone at home.. But, I felt so tired after 14 hrs of flight from LAX to HKG. I was alone all the way from Detroit to LA (about 5 hrs flight). Then I met with Surinder and his friend at LAX. Although we were/are flying together, I felt like I am alone, coz I have to sit with strangers. Since something is wrong with my cellphone, it’s so hard for me to make phone calls. I felt so bad when I couldn’t call anyone (especially when I need help), and I realized I really rely a lot on cellphone!

I miss the time I travelled with a bunch of friends from Michigan last year. Now, I’m travelling alone. It’s different kind of feeling. I can’t tell how I feel, or I’m just too used to have them around me.. I will miss Asian Legend restaurant, Bubble Island, Pinball Pete’s etc etc.. I will miss my U-Towers roomiesss, I will miss watching drama with S.Ling, I will miss Hui Ying’s Dance Dance Revolutions (DDR) etc etc.. Maybe I should say I will miss Michigan or people in Michigan!

Have a great Spring/Summer! Good Luck in examsss.. And, good luck in all your actuarial papers!

April 7th! I got the scholarship*!

It’s Monday morning. I was so reluctant to wake up for Morning Sharing, but I made it. And when I checked my UMich email, I was so shocked! So surprised! So happy!I got an email from my academic advisor, Dr Montgomery with the title "UG Scholarships* - Congratulations, Huey Shann". I know it must be a good news! =) And yes, it is! In the email, Dr Montgomery said "Prof. Savage and I are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive one of the Patterson Scholarships*, awarded to "exceptional and worthy" students"!

The first thing I did was, woke my roommate(S.Ling) up and told her my good news! And then I called my father. They(daddy, mummy and meimei) are now in the airport, going back to KB after my dear sister’s interview at UCSi. Congratulations to my dear sister for getting Sin Chew’s Scholarship as well! Good job, sister!! =)

It’s not the amount of the scholarship* that matters. I applied for this scholarship really last minute. And I didn’t expect to get it! I’m really surprised! The scholarship* is another thing to cheer my mummy and daddy and also grandpa! =) At least, I have something to make them happy. This is the most important part of getting this scholarship*. And I remembered what I wrote in the ‘Personal Statement’ - this is for my beloved grandma! I made it, I really made it!

*To avoid any unnecessary issue about the scholarship, it’s an award kind of "scholarship" and not the financial aid type.

Ski Trip

Yea, it was my first skiing experience! And I would say it was fun =)

Before we went skiing, I was so nervous, or maybe I should say I was scared. Coz i remembered, my first time skating at Sunway Pyramid. Pei Ying was the one who encouraged me, stayed beside me. She knew what happened when I started skating. I hold her tightly, hold the side tightly and told her, "I don’t wanna skate anymore". And my tears rolled down too. I really felt ashamed. But in the end, I could skate (although I couldn’t skate like an expert)! =)

It was on a Tuesday during Spring break that I joined the ski trip organized by UMIMSA(Umich Malaysian Student Association). Before the trip, I got all my equipments prepared, e.g. Ski pants, gloves etc.  The weather was not that good and the journey was kinda scary (still, we reached Pine Knob Ski Resort safely). When we first reached, we got our tickets and our ski shoes as well as ski poles. We started skiing at the Beginner’s bunny. I was happy that I didn’t fall for the first time =) I was actually very scared, but I told myself that I don’t wanna fall, so I tried hard to balance myself until I stopped. After a few hours, we stopped and had lunch.

After that, I asked S.Ling to try the "Intermediate" slope with me. This time we need to take the chair lift to get to the "top of the hill". The chair lift is like a cable car, but it’s open air and no seat belts! Too bad, we didn’t know how to get off! And so, we jumped and fell. S.Ling taught me how to get up, coz that was my first time fell and I don’t know how to stand up. And we could see, how steep the slope was, compared to the beginner’s bunny. OMG! We had no choice but to ski downhill. That was fast, that was really fast. And, the wind was so strong with snow blowing onto my face. I didn’t fall and I could stop safely. I felt so sorry to make S.Ling come with me. Fortunately she’s safe and I wouldn’t do that to her anymore. Coz it was really dangerous.  Sorry, S.Ling…

I tried to ski a few times at the beginner’s bunny. And then, I tried the "Intermediate" by myself. I was scared, but I wanted to try. And I knew how to get off the chair lift the second time I tried. That was fun, but of course I didn’t manage to try the most difficult part. It’s enough, I’m glad that I came back without injuries. =)

Now Spring break comes to an end. School will start in two days…

Spring Break ‘08

Yeah, Spring break is here… My break started after I was done with my Midterm on Wednesday. (Although I still have to go to classes on Thursday and Friday)

I got back both my Thermo and Fluid midterm before the break. Huh… Fluid was the easy one, my classmates did quite well, and the mean was 73/100 (it’s kinda high). However, I didn’t really do well. I scored only a few marks above mean. Kind of disappointed with myself, coz I did some careless mistakes and I think I did not prepare well for this exam. On Friday, we got back our Thermo midterm, no one wants it back, coz it was a hard exam, compared to Fluid. The mean was just 42/85, which is about 49%. Out of my expectation, I got 74/85 and I got the highest score in class:)  But no one knows my score, I don’t want people to feel bad about themselves. Coz my classmates who sat beside me got thirty something out of 85. I wouldn’t want to make others sad or anything. I went to see Edward after class, to ask him whether I need to go to Lab during break. He was the first person who knows my score.

We attended Lantern Festival on Saturday. It’s actually the celebration of the last day of Chinese New Year and it was held by Organization of Chinese Americans. Shr bo picked us up at about 10am and dropped us at Lin Shr gu’s house. We had breakfast at her house and then only Shr gu drove us there. A lot of people visited Tzu Chi’s booth. And I was in charge of "arts and craft" part. I taught children and adults how to make shrimp using straws. It’s not very easy, but of course it’s not hard! It’s doable. And, it’s cute. [I should have taken some pictures of the shrimp, but I forgot] :) After the event, Shr gu invited us to her house. We had steamboat! Nice one..

We rushed back to Ann Arbor after that, which took about an hour drive. I was having really bad headache. However, we went to Pinball Pit (an arcade) after we changed. Adhi  (WanYing’s bf) is leaving soon, that’s why we met up with him that night. Daniel taught me how to play pool, he’s really an expert! We knew him during the event, and he’s nice. He’s actually in charge of sending us home. But we invited him to join our gathering, since he had nothing to do. After Pinball Pit, we went to Friends Karaoke! This was my first time there, I can’t believe we sang for three hours! Three hours! Huh… Everyone was crazily happy! We left at about 2am…

It was a tiring day! End of my first day of break.

I called home last night. Mummy said she received a letter from University of Michigan. Also, she said I got a certificate from The University of Michigan College of Engineering  saying that  I attained the dean’s honor list for Fall ‘07! This is for mummy daddy and everyone at home! Love you all lots :)

I’m going skiing tomorrow (Tuesday)! Hopefully it will be a fun trip although I might have a lot of lebam lebam after that :)
